Liam Cummins (b. 2004) is a lifelong composer, pianist and improviser who creates music that nods to the past and dives into the future. His many wide-ranging works include a piano quartet highlighting the accelerating effects of climate change, a choral piece written for performances in a stairwell and even a fanfare using only household objects as instruments.

Liam's music has been recognized widely for its nuanced craft, inventive orchestration and broad emotional range. He is the 2022 YoungArts Gold Winner in Classical Music, a winner of a 2023 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, and a winner of the 2022 American Prize in composition. In 2022 he was the only young composer in the country nominated for consideration as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the arts. His music has been recognized by organizations including Tribeca New Music, New York Youth Symphony, American Composers Orchestra, National Young Composers Challenge, Third Coast Percussion, The Silent Voices Project, Juilliard's AXIOM Competition, the New England Philharmonic, Icarus Quartet, and NPR's public radio program The American Sound. An enthusiastic advocate for concert music, Liam strives to make the art form accessible and impactful for as many people as possible – especially those not frequently exposed to it.  

Liam is pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at The Juilliard School, studying with John Corigliano.

FUN FACT: Liam is an avid backpacker and outdoors enthusiast.
